Bob Moore

The Future of IT Infrastructure
(and How it Will Fundamentally Change the Role of the CTO)

While the there have been massive changes in IT infrastructure over the past two decades, those changes pale in comparison to the changes that will occur over the next several years. Ubiquitous virtualization and wireless, the “consumerization” of IT and cloud-based infrastructure will not only cause significant changes in the types of services IT departments offer, but will require new skills and expertise from school district technology leaders and decision-makers. This session will describe some of the most significant changes to come and give ideas for how CTOs can begin to prepare for future success.

Bob Moore joined Dell, Inc. in July 2009 after enjoying a career of 21 years in educational technology leadership, the past 15 as CIO in Blue Valley Schools, Overland Park, Kansas. Blue Valley, a school district of 21,000 students, has been recognized for more than a decade as one of the nation’s most technologically progressive school districts students. Mr. Moore is a graduate of Auburn University with a B.A. in International Trade and a M.S. in Management Information Systems.

As a highly respected school district technology leader in the US, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) for 9 years, including a two-year term as chairman. He was also member of the National Education Advisory Board for Cable in the Classroom, Dell Computer’s K-12 Platinum Advisory Council and Microsoft’s K-12 Advisory Council, as well as the editorial advisory boards of eSchool News and Scholastic Administr@tor publications. Mr. Moore has authored many articles and is a frequently invited speaker on education technology related issues. His current role at Dell, Inc. is Senior Manager, Business Development for the Global Education practice. He is responsible for facilitating growth of the K12/primary education practice, including developing and expanding Dell’s client relationships, advancing the maturing of the product offering, and growth of K12-specific intellectual property.

Jeff Mao
Learning Technology Policy Director, State of Maine, Department of Education
At the Point of Learning: Maine's 1:1 laptop program

An interactive conversation with Jeff Mao about Maine's 1:1 program including ideas ranging from how provide academic freedom without giving out the root password to maintaining 70,000 laptops in over 300 schools. Keith Krueger, CoSN CEO, will facilitate the conversation, and audience participation will be encouraged.
Jeff Mao is the Learning Technology Policy Director for the State of Maine, Department of Education. He provides vision and oversight to Maine’s education technology programs, including the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI).

Jeff has made presentations at numerous conferences throughout the United States as well as in Korea, China and Australia. He has testified in support of education technology to the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and has published articles in the One-to-One Institute Newsletter, T.H.E. Journal, and online for MacWorld.com. Jeff is Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for the State Educational Technology Directors’ Association.

Jeff began his career in the classroom at the Brewster Academy where he helped develop its pioneering 1:1 program in 1993. Jeff then held a technology director position in one of Maine's larger school districts, and subsequently joined the Maine Department of Education.
